Portuguese Traditional Jewelry - Crafted in Portugal
History:
The history of Portuguese jewelry is intimately connected to the odyssey, started in the fifteenth century, of the portuguese navigators, which has contributed to the development of the sector, as precious stones and precious metals, were part of the products that were brought from the distant newly unveiled territories.
These precious metals and precious stones were then used by the portuguese jewelers in their jewelry and sacred art pieces such as monstrances (custódias).
The eighteenth century was the most important of the gold era in Portugal, as the gold that came from Brazil, made the portuguese jewelry richer, with the begining of the handcrafted produced jewelery at workshops located in the north of Portugal. Luxury pieces of art were used as an ostentation of the national wealth, such as the Jewels of the Portuguese Court.
The collection:
This collection is inspired by the original portuguese jewelry from the eighteenth and later centuries, but manufactured by the craftsman we work closelly with, in sterling silver with ocasional 9k gold applications, and using marcasites, zirconias, and glass stones (depending on the piece).
Authenticity Guarantee:
All our jewelry has the Official Assay Office Punch insuring the manufactured metal and fineness. This mark is applied in all pieces by The Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office, that provides the guarantee by checking the fineness of the pieces, displayed in thousandths.
The Sterling Silver fineness of 925 - the one used in our pieces - means that in 1000 units of mass of the alloy, 925 units are pure precious metal.
The gold fineness of 375 - the one used in some of the pieces of this collection - means that in 1000 units of mass of the alloy, 375 units are pure precious metal.
